“Rec” and Roll – LCAT’s New Partnership with rec.fm

This week we started a new partnership with rec.fm. In a Mashable Spark of Genius post, rec.fm is summed up:

Rec.fm allows you to recommend products to your friends via your social networks in three easy steps. First, search for the product you want to recommend on their website. Next, explain in 140 characters or less why you’re recommending it. After completing the prompt to log in via Facebook or Twitter, you’ll then be given a shortened rec.fm URL to share information about the product via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter and nearly a dozen other social networking platforms. If someone makes a purchase via your recommendation, the charity of your choice will receive the majority of Rec.fm’s revenue from the sale — you are not compensated. You will also receive an acknowledgment of your contribution via e-mail.

We are proud to be an early adopter – one of the first six charities to partner with rec.fm.  It’s a simple concept and a great idea.  I see a lot of potential for both the company and for charities affiliated with it.

What’s more, as a bonus for partnering early, rec.fm will forgo its cut and give 100% of the product referral fees to LCAT for the first 90 days.  So, recommend early and recommend often.

The process is simple:

1. Sign up for an account.

2. In your profile, choose LCAT as your charity.

3. Recommend products.

When others read your recs and buy your favorite products online, LCAT receives a portion of the revenue and we send you a Donation Confirmation Receipt for helping out!

Rec and Roll Relay!

Better than waiting for people to find rec.fm and choose us, how about a Rec and Roll Relay Party?

Here’s the idea:  Organize a fundraising event at your local coffee house or college cafeteria.  Invite folks to come and form teams of 3 or 4 each.  Pump everyone up with free caffeine and sugar.  Then, over a 3 hour period see how many product recommendations the teams can enter into rec.fm on behalf of LCAT.  Prizes go to the winners.  It’s a “Rec Relay.”

Add some live music and its a “Rec and Roll Relay Party”.
